The question was - Does the stock 3rd gen filter have a bypass?  I'm guessing it does.

Cheers,

Rusty

I’m not sure why it would – it is not a full flow filter.  The filter block is ported so some oil goes through the filter to the engine, and some bypasses to the pressure control valve – back to the pan.

I would think the engineers would be interested in protecting the engine, more than the filter, and dirty oil is better than no oil (trust me on that one <g>).    If the filter has no bypass, and it plugs up, you'll have good oil temp and pressure, but a ruined engine.

One of the things I like about the 3rd gen filter, is that it's made to run high oil pressures.  Even if it plugged up, and didn't have a bypass, I bet it would hold the 157 psi front cover relief pressure.

Cheers,

Rusty (ordered a K&N filter to test, and see if it fits)
