 Ernest,
I just gotta disagree with you here.  When oiled-foam filters become dirt saturated they pass the dirt thru the filter to the engine. They are not the 'best' option but work well if kept clean.
K&N filters are a pleated cotton cloth filter that when oiled will not pass dirt.  They do not make a paper or oiled-foam filter that I have ever heard of.   When the filter gets dirty the airflow decreases but dirt is not passed.  Many dirt bike riders use these because of their great flow characteristics and that they don't pass dirt.  K&N filters are the standard that all others are judged by.   Bill Jepson, does your experience back up my anecdotal observations???
