Neat spreadsheet Ed, but I don't understand what the "inner cone" is.  There's just one cone on these right?  Just to make sure I'm reading this right, how about checking my thoughts here. 
 
I am looking at the K&N cone shaped filter # RU-5111.  It has a 3" flange, 4.5" base, 3.5" top, and is 5.75" long.  It looks to me like this gives plenty of area.  Do you agree (before I order it)?
