My understanding is that the filters compatible with my remote mount option (3/4" - 16 tpi threaded filters... Ford stock I believe) all have internal bypass filters.. this incluces all filters that are compatible with the Fram HP-1 and PH-8 series. I am not positive, but I was under the impression that all of the filters had bypass valves of some sort to prevent damage.

For an interesting read on this very subject (oil filters)

By the way, your remote mount oil filter.. are you using a racing beat remote mount, or something from summit racing? or did you fabricate a remote mount out of the stock filter "pedestal" ?

Greetings,

Can anyone tell me if the stock 3rd gen Mazda filter has an internal bypass valve?  In other words, if it plugs up, it will bypass rather than blowing up.

I'm considering a way to eliminate a big hose that's in the way of ever adding an air filter, but the only way I can think to do it is to run the oil through the cooler, then to the filter, then to the oil filter pad.  At that point, it would connect to the regulator, and to the engine.  The only problem I can see with this, is if the filter plugged up, and didn't have a bypass valve built in.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work, and I can't believe I didn't think of this when I was making the oil filter bypass block.

Cheers,
Rusty
