I started with the VFD = in my RV-4 and loved it 99% of the time. But when the sun was low and = at my 6, I had to shade the display to see it clearly. I liked the VFD = look and will use it in my -8 but will have the popular sun shade = installed in canopy to make it visible 100% of the time.
