Hi, Rusty....yes, the air is dumped directly into the cowling in the vicinity of the throttle body. I reduced the throttle to 4900 rpm's, and temps did not come down in the climb. Prior to installing the ram air scoop, my temps would actually drop during a climb at 4900 rpm's, so I believe the ram air scoop to be the culprit.  I have a NACA duct and some 3 inch tubing on the way. I am going to build an airtight plenum over the throttlebody and the NACA duct/sceet tubing will deliver fresh air to the throttlebody ONLY and not dump it into the low pressure area of the cowling, thus inhibiting my cooling.  I guess that's why they call it experimental.   Paul Conner

I will try sealing around the radiator first. If that fails to bring the temps down, I will try removing the ram air scoop and installing a NACA scoop with a hose to bring air directly to the throttlebody, and not dump it into the low pressure area of the cowling.

Hi Paul,

I was just about to ask if anyone had heard from you recently.  I thought maybe you HAD taken up golf of fishing :-)

Are you saying that your new scoop dumps air into the cowl, in the vicinity of the TB?  In other words, not directly to it via some sort of duct.  If that's the case, it could certainly be a problem, but you'd think it would affect the oil temp as well.  Still, the temps you posted aren't bad, as long as you were climbing at full throttle, and to a reasonable altitude.

Rusty (thinking of thermostats and cowl flaps)
