I went back and check the e mail and sure enough I misread the type plug as  B9EQV vice B9EGV.  Interesting in I had actually showed the e mail to the auto parts guy with the correct type circled - but verbally spoke the B9EQV, neither one of us caught the "minor" difference - sigh!    Both plugs have the 19mm (3/5") reach - but don't know if the ground electrode is different or not.   The B9EQV looks just like a conventional plug with perhaps a bit finer center electrode and with a ground strap off the side.  Any difference there could have made a difference - assuming the plugs are the problem.

Well, in a few minutes I am off to see what I can find out and to start taken the engine off.

Best Regards

Ed

, I had just put in 4 new B9EQV spark plugs the previous day.

Ed;

Sorry to hear of your disappointing trip.  But, hey; s__t happens.  You did the right thing, of course.  When the engine isn’t running properly, you take the nearest airport.  It’s great that you and your plane got down just fine.

If it is the plugs, perhaps it’s possible that the seals jumped over the protruding plugs for a while until they became damaged enough for loss of compression?  Pulling a leading plug should tell the story on that. How did you choose the B9EQV?  Did you know of someone else using them? I’m running the B9EGV and they are fine.
