-------------- Original message --------------
Hmmnn, OK, I'll admit, lately I've only been skimming quickly over the mail (too busy). I recall the slingshot, but didn't put it all together as I was still thinking about the RV-3. BTW, sorry to hear that there was greater than expected damage. This would be interesting see datalogger readings on this (hint) to see just how long you were able to run without oil.
I can't believe you didn't read all my messages. I'm sure you've got all the usual Canadian excuses... several empty cases of beer, tongue stuck to a flagpole, scandal involving photos and a moose, possibly in that order. Just don't let it happen again, or I shall taunt you a second time :-)
Yes it would be interesting to see data logs, but realistically, what difference would the knowledge make. Still, I've played it over in my mind a hundred times, and I just can't get any better idea of the timing of events.
Are you going to do your own rebuild or send it to Bruce? I'm interested to hear the results and I promise to read it fully :-)
I'm doing the rebuild, no doubt. I expect to have the engine home this weekend, and will proceed from there. I'll probably send the rotors to Bruce for ceramic coating, and while I'm at it, I'll sent the stationary gears, and he can press in new bearings all around. I'll also discuss a more aggressive porting, since I "need" that 3000 fpm climb rate :-)
Cheers,
Rusty (non-politically correct, and proud of it)
