Excellent! Dave witnessed the birth pangs of my rotary. Tell him we miss him.
I am having fun playing with the 3-blade adjustable 68" Warp Drive prop I got from Rusty. I set it up for 5300 static, (4900 was all I got with the Felix 68 x 72) and it had so much torque that if I increased the throttle rapidly with the brakes locked and full aft stick, it would lift the tail and move it sideways! I am gradually increasing the pitch now to find a tradeoff between climb and cruise. It climbs like a bat (the cold air certainly helps), but of course the top end is not there. I will publish the curves when I finish in case anybody else cares.
Tracy suggested I find the pitch that gives the same static as the wood prop, then plot the speeds & rpms. This comparison should quantify the losses at higher speeds due to the prop type.

Subject: [FlyRotary] Bernie run update
Slowly it is starting to come together after some seemingly painful starts. Can’t believe Bill Eslick had less teething problems than most Lycomings. I guess if you do it right it works with the first start :>). By the way Bill I dropped by Indiantown airport on the way back this morning and ran into an old neighbor of yours, Dave Moore. He said to say hello.
