As to whether MMO is better than 2-stroke oil, MMO is advertised mostly
as a detergent.and an OIL additive.  NOT as a fuel additive AFAIK.

It's advertised as both.  The first use listed on the bottle is fuel (4 oz per 10 gallons).

2-stroke oil OTOH is the ONLY lubrication a 150 hp outboard EVER SEES.
MMO doesn't advertise that, and if you were to call them up, I bet they
would VIGOROUSLY OPPOSE substituting it for 2-stroke oil in your
outboard.  I'll mix the WalMart 2-stroke every time.

And I bet if you called up a 2-stroke oil company and asked them about using it in your Mazda rotary, they oppose it just as vigorously.  Actually, in one of the RX-7 club threads, someone called Marvel Oil company, and was told that they don't recommend it for warranty purposes only.  The rep on the phone said that he personally used it for all his 2-strokes.  Maybe he gets it free :-)

Around draining excess oil out of sumps, I'm wondering if perhaps that's
a sign you're mixing too much MMO/2-stroke in with your gas?  Perhaps go
from 1 oz / gal to 3 oz / 4 gal or 2 oz per 3 gal until you're finding
just a little extra in the sump.

Well, that was why I asked if anyone was using less than 1 oz per gallon.  Unfortunately, I don't think you can judge how much you need for your apex seals by how much ends up in the sump.

Per your other message, there are lots of RX-7 guys who pre-mix.  Some just add 4 oz per tankful in addition to the omp.  Others disable the omp and run 1oz per gallon like we do.  I may post a message to the RX-7 club to see if anyone sees their sump level rise.
