Re: [FlyRotary] Re: how do you carry, and measure oil?
Hi Rusty, Why people think that MMO is solution for everything? 2 cycle oil was designed to be used just for our purpose. I know you’ll make faces when I mention PL but he cooked few different samples in the oven to see which oil left the least sludge residue when burned, and the 2 cycle oil was the best as I remember it.
My hangar neighbor puts some MMO in the tanks of his Lyconosorus equipped RV-4, but he doesn’t know any better. He is an A&P, so I forgive him :) But you? :)
Bulent
Hi Bulent,  Actually, the 5 oz thing was just an example of what I do for the 5 gallon jugs I was using to fill the plane.  There would be no problem continuing to use the measuring cup for hanger use, but even that won't be necessary very soon.

By the end of Thanksgiving weekend, I'll have a 91 gallon tank installed in the truck, complete with 12V fuel pump and meter.  When  I start using that, I'll have to either add oil to the transfer tank when I fill it at the station, or leave the fuel in the transfer tank clean, and add oil as I fill the plane at the hanger.  That's actually why I asked the question about using less than 1 oz/gal of oil.  My other engine is a 912ULS, which requires premium, and would prefer to not have oil.  I have it from a reliable source that using MMO in the 912 won't hurt a thing, particularly if you keep the concentration as low as possible.  It also won't hurt other engines it seems, so I've been thinking of going back to MMO, and just mixing it in the transfer tank.  One thing's for sure, it would stay mixed up as I drive.

The problem is how to add oil when filling up at another airport.  Clearly, from the responses, I'm worrying too much about exact ratios.  I'll probably just buy a few quarts of MMO, then reuse the bottles by filling them from gallon containers.  They seem to be pretty heavy duty bottles, and have a nice long neck, so it's probably as good as any.

Thanks,
Rusty (will never fill the plane without thinking about alligators)
