Did not have a 18 kt = cross wind so take offs were nowhere near as exciting as the previous = flight. =20 I have tried full throttle takeoffs and slowly feeding in the throttle. = Full throttle take offs are manageable but requires just about all the = right rudder I have and even then the aircraft starts crabbing = immediately on lift off. Feeding the throttle in slowly takes a bit = more runway (but still much less than my old prop), but is uneventful = compared to the immediate full throttle take off. I have a full ball right deflection when straight and level, so it looks = Like I am going to need to modify my motor mount to take out the left = off-set I had in for the old 2.17 gear box. But, I love it. For the first time ever I saw my VSI pegged at 2000 fpm = UP!. True it was a little bit of a zoom in that I started the climb at = 140IAS and stabilized it at 120 IAS. But, the steady state ROC was a = solid 1600 fpm which is about 500-600 fpm better than previously and = that was at 1650 lbs. =20 I still might be a bit over-propped in that my static is 5600 rpm which = what it was with the old prop and 2.17. I'll have to check with the = prop manufacture to see what effect removing an inch or so would have on = static rpm. Cooling was as reported for the first flight. My total radiator inlet = area of 28 sq inches works fine. Cruise airspeed burning 7.5-8 gph has = the oil and coolant at 170F. WOT throttle burning 16 GPH (on take off) = and 11-12 GPH at 5000 msl will have the oil and coolant increase to 200F = and 205F respectively today OAT was 80F. =20 I plan on flying to Charlie England's Flyin in Mississippi next weekend. = Hope to see some of you there.
