Re: [FlyRotary] Ceramic coating/Cooling
Yvon,  Don't change your internal stiffener.  Assuming it is done correctly, that is the best way to do it.

"External stiffener" is a term I made up for my make-shift fix.  It is just a piece of fairly stiff hose that I split down one side so I could slip it over the silicone hose then put a clamp around it to force it back into a round cross section.  The silicone hose is in a position where it needed to be curved.  This caused it to flatten slightly and since the silicone is very soft, it will easily constrict and flatten if negative pressure is present.   The stiffener helps to keep this from happening.   I will skip the long boring explanation of why I did it this way.   There was one but that doesn't mean it is the best way to do it.

Objet : [FlyRotary] Re: Renesis Testing

I was beginning to think the Renesis swap was a mistake.  Up until now, the engine felt weak compared to the 4 port 2nd gen I've been flying although I haven't really had a chance to test it's max output due to cooling concerns.

Just got back from first flight test after making several changes.  Yes, I know that it is best to change one thing at a time so the results can be accurately correlated but that must be balanced against the time available.  It takes me an average of 5 hours to do each preparation/flight test/data evaluation and this does not include the time required to make the changes.

Changes
Main change was:   Replaced NACA scoop / SCAT duct air inlet with ram-air inlet.

Other changes included adding an additional coolant temp sensor before coolant passes exhaust ports, cleaner cooling air exit from right rad and oil cooler (result of removing the SCAT duct) and external stiffener on water pump inlet hose (to prevent collapse in the event of negative pressure).

Allo Tracy. I have internal stiffener on my 1986 13B  water pump inlet hose and this is the first time I hear about external stiffener. I would like to try that. Where can I get it? Please. Yvon.
