A much cheaper alternative, however, is to buy a bunch of gallon zip-lock plastic bags and fill them with wet sand. A round of duct tape helps keep them shut, and if the sand is wet they will come in at about ten pounds per bag. They're easy to conform to odd shapes, and you can stack them as high as you like when bonding stuff together. Total cost for all you need is under ten bucks, compared with something like $20 per bag of lead shot. When you're through with them, they're also a lot easier to get rid of. Incidentally, I don't necessarily think more weight is always better. In a lot of their aerospace epoxy products, Dexter/Hysol actually add polymer beads to prevent too much of the adhesive being squeezed out of the joint. If you have enough evenly applied weight to get good squeeze-out, that's enough.
