I am now sealing my fuel tanks on my LNCE. Using
the Jeffco 9700 sealant from Lancair. When I
mixed up the first batch for the bottom skin, I
mixed way too much! I think I mixed 16 oz. of
Part A with 8 oz. of part B for a total of 24 oz.
Way too much! You only have about 20 minutes to
get it on. I only got about 8 oz. on before it
started kicking on me.
On subsequent batches, I found it best to use two
syringes (without the needles), one 6 ml for part
A 3 ml for part B. Draw up two syringes full of
each and mix into a cup. My Wife and I each took
a cup of 18 ml and painted it on. The timing was
perfect. When we got close to running out, one
of us would mix more while the other kept
painting. We wasted very little in this manner.
I also found it best to paint it on rather thick
and try to get an even coat. Before it gets too
thick, use Pat Weston's light trick to get the
pin holes covered. Don't get the light too close
to the wing skin. The light is very hot!
We put a mirror in the bottom of the bay to see
up under the capstrip lip. Started with the lip
first then the sides and finally the bottom of
the bay.
Happy with the results so far. We will not know
if it worked until the wings are closed.
Mike
