I also share your concern for lowering the approach
speed of the ES, it's my #1 concern, but I don't
think there's any thing that can be done in the flap
area. The slotted flaps on the ES have a pivot point
that is quite far back. the flaps move back about
three inches when deployed, giving you most of the
advantages of fowler flaps without the complexity.
Lance Neibauer e-mailed me about two weeks ago, and
and stated that Lancair has tested vortex generators
on both the IV and the ES, and that it lowered the
the stall speed by up to 10 knots. They will also
lower your top speed, but for me that's a very small
price to pay. He also said that Orin at Lancair
could tell you where to place them and how many.
If your about to mount your flap hinges in your
wings, it might be helpful for you to know that the
hinge angles stated in the manual are not achievable.
So don't waist your time trying to figure out what
your doing wrong. You will have to set your own angles.
