The dry transfer lettering with a clear coat over it will wear off.
Years ago, when I built one-off equipment for the lab research market, I
used to do some panels that way because I didn't have enough volume to
justify the cost of proper silkscreening.  After a year or so in the field,
the labels wore off, just from friction, cleaning, fingernails bumping them,
etc.

Try the folks at Aircraft Engravers, 112 Canton Road, Granby, CT 06035,
Tel: 860.653.2780.  They did all the panel overlays for my first ES,
including a large one with labels for all 30 circuit breakers, at a total
cost of about $150.  They have a variety of materials and colors, but the
lettering is really permanent and looks very professional.  They can also do
fuel caps, custom switch caps, etc.
