I have since e-mailed the Crest Corp who produces reticulated polyurethane ether-based foam with some common questions about fuel contamination, replacement and life time, here is their response: "This material is designed for use primarily in military aircraft fuel tanks. It has demonstrated a life span at minimum of 12 years and still testing' however, these tanks are accessible & drainable & yours is not. Also, the foam is most effective in preventing explosion after penetration of the fuel tank by projectiles. It does help mitigate fuel spray when there is an impact rupture, but it will not prevent it, nor will it keep the fuel from combusting when it is met by a flame source. Since you have so many concerns going in, it might be best if you did not use this material. Sincerely, Crest Foam Industries" That does it for me with poly foam however, the Explosafe aluminum baffles are a different story. I've heard good results from you on this list and I'd like to hear more opinions about whether this is worth the trouble. I plan to fly a lot of IFR and I'm concerned about the combination of fiberglass, lightning and near empty fuel tanks, in addition to crash worthness.
