Charlie, do you mean ALL deviations?  This is a pretty broad and bold
statement.  There are many many items in my ES manual that cannot possibly
be done per the manual.  Even when talking to the factory reps about things,
they say, "yea, you can't do it that way, you need to do it this way".  I
understand if the meaning is that any major deviations will void the
insurance, such as a redesign of the fuel system, or any major system for
that matter, but for example, I installed my fuel pump in the middle of the
fuselage, instead of the right hand side of the fuselage.  This is not per
the plans, but is in the same place in the fuel schematic.  I even asked a
couple of Lancair employees when I was up there at the factory if that would
work, and got the verbal ok for it.  I've seen several other ES's built this
way too, and am wondering if you are saying that all of these airplanes are
not insured.   I've installed jack points like the ones on the IV, I've put
gears on the rudder pedals to improve them, I've substituted stronger
materials in some areas for mounting hardware.  I've used carbon fiber
instead of glass in areas too.  This is all not "per construction manual
directions".  Are you telling me that I'm not insurable if you inspect my
airplane?  Or only if you document it to the insurance company.  Can you
clerify this for us (me)  please?  Thanks.
