I've been planning to go with the IO-550. However, my interpretation of what I've been reading in the last few LML's is that 100LL will disappear within 10 years and there might not be a reasonably priced alternative that works in these engines. This seems to suggest that buying an IO-550 a couple years from now would be very risky indeed. On the other side of the issue, I see high performance planes being built, sold, even planned with these engines (Lancairs, Bonanzas, Mooney's, the future higher HP Cirrus, the future Columbia, etc.), which suggests either that the market hasn't figured this out, that people don't care that much about the cost of fuel, or that people have confidence that a solution will be worked out. I know that it's impossible to forecast the future, but I'm wondering what folks with knowledge about fuel and engines think about buying (or planning to buy two years from now) an engine that currenlty runs only on 100 octane fuel. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
