I built an exhuast hanger like Chris speaks about.  I wanted a rigid mount that moved with the engine.

Moral of the story, I'm not a welder and shouldn't pretend to be one.  It cracked at my weld, casting doubt on the idea.  But, after I had both of them re-welded by someone who knows what they are doing, all has been good since then.

I have moved the weak link to the clamp around the pipe.  Something one of the Unlimited racers reminded me of is that the pipes grow in length, so there needs to be a way to account for that.  So far, what I have done is just not clamp them so tight allowing the clamp to pivot forward and aft.  Worked so far!
