I am considering having some flap hinge fairings built for me using 3D printing. These would be fairly simple in design and use the existing (rounded) front hinge but fair the back hinge.
I am early in the process of making them which would consist of:
1) Design drawings
2) Turning drawings into a “SPL” file
3) Having a single prototype made by 3 D printer
4) Checking fit and modifying drawings (if necessary)
5) Testing for speed gain
6) Making a batch of them – for sale to others
Would others be interested in purchasing a set of them? I believe the price per will go down with an increased number.
Assume the following:
· Price in the $200 range for a set of 4 fairings. Not really sure of this price at this time.
· Total of 8 pieces – assembled by placing two halves over rear flap hinge and gluing/screwing in place
· Made of ABSM-30 plastic – can be glued using epoxy and painted with primer
And
· Gives a speed increase of 3 to 4 knots (at this point in time, this is speculation on my part, however given the size and number of hinges I consider this a reasonable guess)
Let me know on or off list
