Re: [LML] Legacy Takeoff Performance at High Elevation Airports? HI Valin

I fly a normally aspirated IO-550N powered Legacy and recently had occasion to check my take off roll at a 4500ft altitude airport. Density altitude was 6000ft on the day and according to the plot on Google Earth the Legacy took 1640ft to lift off at a weight of 2250lbs. But at that sort of weight and the DA up at 8000ft, I’ve had the Legacy take up to a 2500ft. Not a bad performance but there is a noticeable degradation in climb performance at those altitudes so the usual caution applies.

My rule of thumb at the high altitude airports is not to go into anything less than 3300ft length and then to take off before the mercury climbs. I agree with a previous post, I am more concerned about the landing roll at high altitudes.

Regards

Ross
