In a Legacy its fine if you have a paved surface, but if you off field on grass or a farmers field, you risk damaging the spar when your wheels go into a rut or hit a big rock.
It all depends on the circumstances I think...
Thanks
Kevin

Subject: [LML] TWO GREEN IS NOT ENOUGH
HI THERE
Two months ago i landed at TEB with two green which turned out to be no left main gear
i made the best approach i capable of and touched down nose high in the right attitude
then
the left wing began to drop and full aileron kept the wing up for a while as i slowed.
the wing tip came down and became the left gear substitute.
i kept the plane on the runway until the load got heavy and then acquiesced to the plane's desire to go to the left.
i aimed between two landing lights and came to a quiet stop
THE DAMAGE
left wing tip damaged
pitot scraped off
light scratches to aileron and flap
all told way less than $1,000 to repair
(not including the actuator replacement)
no prop strike
THE CAUSE
gear actuator failed; clearly looked like a shear failure
i would not consider landing gear up after this experience.
I HAD CONTROL
I HAD MINOR DAMAGE
the lift with the air bags cost $3,500 and was a bargain with no damage by the lift
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
watch this video of a Lancair twisting and turning out of control as it ground it prop and wing tips to a stop
LANCAIR LANDING GEAR UP

A $20,000 PART FAILURE
or here a nose gear strut that did not strut enough to extend the nose gear

NO THANK YOU
I will use whatever landing gear i have and pilot the plane until it stops
NOTE HOW NICE THE NOSE GEAR KEEPS THE PROP SAFE FROM THE NASTY GROUND
