By that time, the strut was already eight years old and I felt that it was due for an overhaul anyway. I returned it to Esco and had them overhaul and repaint it, installing the latest shimmy dampening modification and the "self-centering" mechanisim. It took four to five weeks and the total cost (including shipping) was about $ 600. It was like new, for half the price of a new strut.
