As my 320 was being signed off (by DAR) this spring, I requested and
received a test area of 50 nm radius centered on an airport some 30 miles
from home base. No problem, but I should have asked for a larger radius.
(The idea of a circular test area was to let me use the GPS to stay
legal.)
A few years ago, a friend in Wichita Kansas got a test area for his
Glasair III (from the FAA examiner) that was the state of Kansas less a
circular area centered on Kansas City. Another friend just got his
Glasair test area (from FAA examiner) of 80 nm radius centered on a
non-home airport.
