Matt,
In response to your comment on removing the nameplate on your Lycoming
engine, your local FSDO is incorrect. I attended an FAA seminar at Oshkosh on
registering your homebuilt and the new guideline is not to remove the
nameplate, even though the engine had been modified. This is a change in the
FAA policy and the reason makes sense from a safety standpoint. If the
nameplate and serial number are removed there is no way to to determine if
any safety related AD's apply to the engine. Even though the AD's are not
required on a non-approved engine, they may be serious enough to not ignore.
If there is no nameplate on the engine who can tell if any AD's are
recommended?
