With the Chelton's, none of the databases or files on the system get transferred between screens. It does do some data transferring when you load a plan and such, but none of the actual files get propagated across to other screens. (I actually doubt most systems would do this) The screens function as separate independent "computers" that simply talk between them. So they would indeed need their own terrain database. That you *should* (if I remember right) be able to verify on bootup when it lists the dates of the databases. Tim On 8/7/2013 9:30 AM, John Barrett wrote: > Hi Bob, > > TAWS alive and well now. I had an older Chelton ( in reality is was a Sierra Flight Systems box) in MFD two position and newer Chelton as PFD. Brent had updated the newer one to latest SW and latest terrain DB. The older Chelton had latest firmware version but I think older terrain DB. Recently Brent updated my 2nd newer Chelton and put in new terrain DB. I installed it and the problem with TAWS disappeared. I thought PFD would push terrain DB to MFD, but I guess this did not happen. I figure competing DB versions threw the Chelton/Pinpoint system into a quandary and it just failed the TAWS as a result. > > Thanks for your thoughtful input. > > John > > Sent from my iPad > > > On Aug 7, 2013, at 7:02 AM, Robert R Pastusek wrote: > >> John, >> >> Several possibilities here. This is an important software setting that controls lots of functions, and correct switching/relay between multiple displays. Check this first as a potential source of both problems below. It gets a good bit more complex/involved after this... >> >> Bob >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: Lancair Mailing List [mailto:lml@lancaironline.net] On Behalf Of John Barrett >> Sent: Sunday, August 04, 2013 5:38 PM >> To: lml@lancaironline.net >> Subject: [LML] Chelton and TAWS >> >> Has anyone else experienced TAWS failure with Pinpoint system and Chelton MFDs where the GPS and all other functions seem to be fine? I don't really know if I ever got TAWS with the pinpoint but am sure it was working fine while the X bow 500 was in play. The problem may have been coincidental with the changeover a few months ago but I am not certain. My understanding to date is that if you get GPS you should get TAWS. One other anomaly discovered is that selection of Menu on the MFD screen does not bring up the the FAULTS menu. Again, all the other submenus are normal but faults is simply missing. >> >> Thanks >> John Barrett >> >> Sent from my iPad >> >> >> -- >> For archives and unsub http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/lml/List.html >> >> >> >> -- >> For archives and unsub http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/lml/List.html > -- > For archives and unsub http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/lml/List.html
