HI THERE
put a sign in your window "BASLER" and you can get to their ramp mostly on the hard surface. you may even be still able to reserve a spot on their ramp.
when we would go to OSH in the 310 or the 340 we would do that and then park right by the taxiway (by preference)
they will want you to get off the runway as soon as you land;
there is of course, THE WORD NO. just don't go off the hard surface. turn the engine off and go talk to them.
the truth is that the previous weather is key. if it has been dry for a week or two, then the ground will be firm to hard.ok
rain near event time leaves wet spots and mush to taxi through. not so good
just taxi slowly, very slowly.
a final thought is go out and measure the distance between your prop tip and the hard surface. use those inches as a guide to viewing the path in front of you.
when you turn in near Ripon you have the choice of two altitudes; take the high one; it is for the faster airplanes and war birds. it helps until they merge the two for landing.
the worst i ever had was when they still were landing side by side, with either long or short. you are not supposed to speak, but i did twice, as i was turning base to final i said i am a Cessna 310 and you gotta make room for me. then again on final.
well,
there was a homebuilt to my left and a small high wing in front of me doing about 50 knots. they started yelling at him to speed up...to no avail. i was too slow to turn. i was at about 100 feet above the runway, i dared not go under him and to my left and below was the home built. i just kept coming back on the power, the plane stalled and broke to the right and then to the left as i came back on power and it set down as pretty as pudding.
just instinctive; if i had thought about it, i would have been in trouble. never heard the stall warning, too busy flying.
five, yes five FAA controllers, on three occasions, came over to "speak to the pilot" funny, it never occurred ot me to complain,
well
the next year they changes the system to three spots on the runway; long middle and short. different colors and shapes.
wouldn't want to do that with my 4P. COULDN'T

> Anyone have advice on how to avoid or at least minimize taxiing on the grass after landing at Airventure. The last time I flew my Propjet to OSH a few years ago they quickly put me on the grass despite my gesturing objections which made me very nervous with the prop clearance and bumps. I understand that Joe Bartels bent his engine mount taxiing on rough grass. I prefer to go to or get as close as possible to aircraft camping though I would rather park close to asphalt and "backpack" to camping if need be. Anyone know if there will be a Lancair parking area?
