Hope I'm doing this right as far as adding to a particular posting. If
not sorry.
Regarding a runaway trim. I'm just getting started and thinking about
building a IV or Legacy.
One day I watched a Beech Bonanza depart Harford CT just ahead of my
landing. He was bobbing up and down and appeared to be having
difficulty. I mentioned it to the tower and it was all the pilot could
do to control the aircraft. I called on the frequency and suggested he
press the trim disconnect switch but it didn't help. Finally I said just
SHUT OFF THE MASTER SWITCH AND RETRIM MANUALLY AND FLY THE PLANE. He did
so and managed to get back down again.
Turned out he had a runaway up trim condition and later told me that it
was all he could do to control the plane and was luck to have his wife
with him to help pust the yoke forward.
Perhaps this won't help Lancair builders much since I'm just guessing
all trimming is done electrically, on the other hand if things start
running away perhaps it'd be better to kill the master before things get
out of hand.
