Paul,
We allow a minute or so warm up before pulsing. The first bulbs were used
and went about 200 hours at the faster pulse rate operating 50% of flight
time (when traffic is a concern). There is some controversy about color
temperature recognition by the eye so I am running one 5000K and one 8000K
pulsing at the slower rate which gives longer duration. Bottom line, I
think HID is more noticeable to oncoming traffic than strobes. The Audi
projector lens may be a factor also. I picked the Audi projector because it
allowed a 2 3/8" wide outer lens as shown in the photo with no reduction in
beam width which is still as wide as automobile headlights.

Steve, ebay has a few cheap Pulselites, I may pick one up. Do you warm the
HID first then pulse? My lamps kick on immediately but they take 5 seconds
to really come up to temperature and full brightness. I don't think pulsing
immediately will fire the HID although these ballasts allow refire so it
might work.
