Hi Joe-
I went
to my shop and took some close ups. I think you’re fine- I had tried other ways
to mount them but the alignment shown in the INS-1110 drawing worked best. It
just took a lot of filing on the high spots. You can see how much I had to
remove from the front edge of the weights.
I used a mix of bolts and flat-head screws and did whatever it took to get
clearance so some are heads up, others head down; some flush, some recessed.
When I had to repair mistakes I filled the holes with solder. After the weights
were fitted I set them in flox and put BID over all.
The long strips on mine are the Lancair weights. Instead of casting
extra weights you could get another strip from Lancair and cut it up. As a guide
my short weights were 3-4” but on the LH (pilot) aileron the outboard weight is
around 7” to because of the trim tab and servo weight. –Bill Wade

Bill, that's for your reply. I'm hoping I can trouble you with
another question or two. I've enclosed 2 pictures of my copilot side
weights yet to be trimmed and one of the pilots side already trimmed. You
can see how much I had to trim in order to get the full 20 deg travel.
Also you can see I put the nuts on the wrong side... I figured that one out
quickly. I wondering if I have mine installed upside down from
yours. Can you tell from these pictures?
Bob Pastusek had an idea to try. To install them in the bottom of the
flange and check clearance. Worth a try. Did you also
cast the center (long section) of weight or are those from Lancair?
Thanks, joe Trepicone
