This is one area where my humble Cessna 150 really shines -- at the slow end
of the flight envelope! I really like the stall warning system. We've all
heard it wheeze at first, followed by a weak bleat at AoA is increased,
transitioning to a constant whine a few knots above stall, with a load blare
just before the stall is reached. Plus, once you stall, it goes off (in case
you didn't notice the earth now straight in front of you rather than
below...) Easy to test, too, by sucking on the wing during a preflight.
IMHO, Wichita got this one right.
I don't care about how accurate the damn thing is. I care how consistent it
is. It sounds the same every time I stall, and that's what I want. I also
like the graduated warning feature -- unlike those vane/switches in the
leading edges of some aircraft, which are either full on or full off.
Actually, if I didn't think I'd get laughed off the airport, I'd cut the
thing out of a Cessna 150 and stick it on my Lancair!
Oh, one other thing, it's much harder to hear with ANR headsets. Guess those
weren't around when 150's were invented!
