Vern at Lancair sells small metal screens that will work well for the air
inlet.  I bought one to use for my plane and I got the idea from another
builder who did the same thing.  They're rigid, have much larger openings
than fiberglass screens (allowing better flow through them) and can be
glassed into the inlet.
