Hi James,
Congratulations on the beginning of your new project. I hope you enjoy
building as much as I did.
One option that I would recommend the most is AC. I built my Lancair 320
N73S but soon realized that the huge canopy is nothing but a big
magnifying glass with you underneath. Even relatively cool days can feel
hot if the sun is beating down on you. I tried sunshades and that helped
however not much. About 2 years ago I installed a standard freon AC
system. The all up weight was about 35 pounds. I use a retractable scoop
on the far right side of the belly to avoid engine heat. When the ac is
off there is no penalty. AC on I loose about 4 knots. So instead of
doing 210 I am doing 206. Big deal. The hottest day I ever flew it in
was 110. The temp inside was very comfortable and the compressor was
cycling off about every 2 minutes and staying off for about 30 seconds. I
will write up a detailed description of the install for those that are
interested and post in on my new blog at www.n72s.com. An installation
in a Legacy could be very similar. It would certainly be a lot easier due
to the larger size.
