I had an email conversation two years ago with AVM Industries, the manufacturer of the P611 2704 gas strut used on the Lancair 320/360 canopy. They stated that part number was manufactured specifically for Lancair and is no longer available. However, they have a nearly identical part that will work, and is available from local auto parts stores.
Advance, Murray’s, Bumper to Bumper, Checker, Schucks or Kragen carries the StrongArm brand, part# 4545.
Auto Zone or O’Reilly will carry the Mighty Lift brand, part# D95915.
The difference is that the original part extends 0.050” longer (not a problem), has a minimum length 0.51" shorter (also not a problem), and has 4 pounds less force (also not a problem). A comparison is shown below.
