Tom,

I have been building my LN2 kit for some years and am still some way off flying it. I purchased and installed the outback undercarriage about 5 years ago. It came with the “rat trap” springs. Just as the article found, I noticed during the construction, as I was retracting the gear by hand, that there was zero pressure holding the spring in position when the gear was retracted, and it would often do exactly what theirs did, and partially disengage from the link. I queried this with Michelle at Lancair, and she advised that they had had some springs which were incorrectly manufactured and were in fact shaped like the old ones in that article. I am not saying that these had not relaxed over time, but I do know that some new springs have been sent out which exactly match those old ones. In fact, there was a post on the list at the time by someone highlighting this fault.

Michelle replaced my faulty ones free of charge.

Regards,

Can't offer advice about the shocks, but I can about the springs!
