It depends what vintage brake you have. Mine had the newer set up with the electronic module to control it. The electronics automatically retract the extended brake if the other fails to extend. The module does not allow partial extension so the switch is a single pole double throw for extend or retract. If you try and use a center off switch the module will drop the brakes immediately with a bang by disengaging an internal clutch.
Maybe others can comment on the earlier versions.

Hi All,
I am wondering how you have your speed brake switches wired?
My IVP has a rocker switch (two position) that has "speed brakes" marked on it, however there is nothing connected to it.... instead, there is a separate 3 position switch (up, neutral, down) that operates the speed brakes. It allows me to put the brakes partially up and down as compared to 100% or down. I'm wondering how the rest of you have it wired and which is the right way?
