Mine had the newer set up with = the electronic module to control it. The electronics automatically = retract the extended brake if the other fails to extend. The module does = not allow partial extension so the switch is a single pole double throw = for extend or retract. If you try and use a center off switch the module = will drop the brakes immediately with a bang by disengaging an internal = clutch. Maybe others can comment on the earlier versions.
