I would recommend Aircrafters in Watsonville for a condition inspection.  I had some work done by them a long while back and was very pleased.  They will do as much or as little as you want, although there would be some obvious constraints if you don't hold the repairman's certificate -- some stuff they will have to do themselves.  I suspect they would welcome you assistance if that's what you want, or also be happy to have you drop off the airplane and let them do the whole thing.
