Get a case.   Recently, we dropped the iPhone and it cracked.   Fortunately, Apple is allowing a very generous replacement over the counter at most Genius Bars for a one-time glass crack and we got a new iPhone in 20 minutes at Orlando.   Then, I dropped the iPad this week at the airport and the magnetic cover flew off and shattered the glass.  I tried the one-time trick at the genius bar and they quoted $369 to replace the G3 iPad2.   Other stores allow the courtesy replacement for cracked glass on the iPad so I'll try again.  Some stores have allowed shattered glass to be exchanged for a new iPad as they differentiate between a crack and a disastrous fall.  But, if you get the right protection now then you won't have to go through all the crap I did this month.   Get a good case.
