Thanks to Bill Harrelson's loan of his O-320 installation drawings I've
managed to locate the thrust line relative to the cups on the dynafocal
mount which was supplied by the factory. My results seem a little strange
though and I'm hoping that someone can either verify or correct them. The
engine drawings show that the thrust line is about .4" below the centerline
between the cups on the mount, and when I relate that dimenion to the
firewall it places it about 1.5" below the leveling line which is drawn.
In looking at the many photos I have of completed 360's the cowl splits all
seem to run inline with the split beteween the front deck and the fuselage
and run in a straight line from the front of the cowl back to the canopy
line. This would suggest that the thrust line is, in fact, aligned with
that leveling line which was drawn on by the factory (on the fast build kit
anyway.) If any of you out there are to the point where you've got your
engine hanging already but still have access to that level line, could you
check this for me and let me know if I'm on the right track? I'd sure
appreciate it.
