The relatively stiff extend spring on the retractable step caused the aluminum cable guide tube to wear through on on friends IV. I elected to build without the spring, replacing it with a mechanism that pushes the step out of the retracted position using the motion of the LG door. If any are concerned about the spring causing a wear problem, I am happy to provide pics of the set up.
