Another option is to seek out an IO-550 owner who wants to convert his engine from 14v to 28v.  You can swap alternators and starter with him and it will only cost you shipping (plus new gaskets).

If you simply install a 14-Volt regulator the alternators will happily produce 14V.  However, the maximum current output will not be as high as with a designed-for-14V alternator.  Perhaps that is okay since you have dual alternators.  Just another way out that might work for you.

I'm not familiar with the LIV speed brakes. If they're cable operated, where does the 14V come in ? If the 14V is just for the indicator lights then no problem, replace the bulbs.

As for the 14V hydraulic pack and heated pitot, those are two of the heaviest uses of electricity. Inverters or dropdown regulators are not practical. Replace them with 28V units.

The question is what is less cost, replacing those two units with 28V or replacing the dual alternators with 14V

I have 14v (a) Precise Flight cable operated speed brakes; (b) hydraulic pack; and (c) heated pitot tube all installed and working in my LIV project. However I have acquired a TSIO 550B with a  (dual alternator) 28v system. I would like to go with the 28v system but I hate to go backwards (not to mention the expense) to retrofit my 14v equipment.  I am wondering if it is possible/advisable to run a 28v system but utilize my 14v equipment by installing individual transformers for some or all of (a), (b) or (c) above? Thanks for any advice any of you may have.
