I refused to use those cheap-a** Radio Shack flap relays that came with the
kit. Those were never designed to carry inductive loads like the flap
acuator on the Lancair (11A inrush).

I bought myself some Bosch "Mini-Giant" automotive relays which were rated
for this kind of service. I used part no. 0 332 204 125 SPDT. The NO
contact is rated at 24A inductive, and the NC is rated at 16A inductive.
These contacts are rated at 100,000 cycles switching the rated inductive
load. They have Fast-On terminals, and a single hole mounting bracket.

I used MOVs across the contacts for good measure.

I am using Bosch 0 332 002 150 relays to control my hydraulic power pack as
well. Rated for 80,000 cycles switching a 60A inductive load, they weigh
1/3 as much as the boat-anchors supplied with the kit. Will take a 400 A
inrush for 1 sec. Coil current on this one is only 260ma as well. Cost
about $10 each.

I have been touting these Bosch relays for years now, both to Neico, and to
Bob Nuckolls. So far no one has expressed any interest that I am aware of...
