On very short final and cleared to land on the far dot a Champ ignored the tower and cut in in front of me, causing the tower to change my clearance from rw 27 to rw 18. Low, slow, heavy, and an immediate hard turn to the left??? I don tink so Lucy! I firewalled it and went over the Champ and around for another try. Made for a lot lower pucker-factor. I agree: be ready for the unusual at the world’s busiest airport. Robert M. Simon ES-P N301ES From: Ron Galbraith [mailto:cfi@instructor.net] I want to 2nd Jeff's recommendations. A couple years ago a Legacy was in the pattern, the controller was pushing him to "keep it in tight". He did. While turning short final they stalled, flipped over into a spin and impacted the ground upside down at about 45 degree angle. They were loaded with enough camping equipment for two people plus all their luggage for a weeks stay. I didn't know you could cram that much stuff in. (had the pilot flown a pattern before loaded like this?). Not trying to be morbid here, but these are things we all want to avoid seeing again. Being there at ground zero was not a very pleasant experience. IF you start feeling in over your head don't continue. Go-around and start over. If you just can't get comfortable in the pattern then go land at Fond Du Lac and catch the bus. IF you want to bring your plane in but are new to the whole OSH thing, then land at Fond Du Lac and get someone experienced to fly into the show with you. I've flown in many times doing this and would be glad to help anyone again. See you all there.
