I hope one of you can help me "finger out" the link between my Chelton system and some other system (perhaps my AOA Pro) that causes an aural annunciation of "FLAPS" on the ground while taxiing, and at times in the pattern.
In the Chelton documentation, Section 2 - Caution/Warning/Advisory system, it lists pages of warnings that will cause "Tones," "Chimes," or verbiage. The verbal warnings include: Pull Up, Terrain, Obstruction, Stall, Overspeed, Minimums, Too Low - Terrain, Too Low -- Gear, Too Low -- Flaps, Sink Rate, Glide Slope, Traffic, Fuel Low, etc.
No where on the list does it designate a "FLAPS" aural warning.
I'm guessing (need your assistance here) that the "FLAPS" warning is triggered some how from my AOA Pro, which I have carefully calibrated according to the documentation and calibration check lists.
I can go into the system menu of the Cheltons and turn down the volume for all alerts, but I don't favor that approach. What I really care about is getting rid of the barking "FLAPS" warning -- especially while taxiing.
Anyone have any ideas?
John,
The "flaps" almost certainly comes from the AOA Pro...at least mine does...and not from the Chelton. The flaps annunciation is triggered when the AOA system goes from the flaps up configuration to the flaps down configuration...the stall AOA is different for these configurations, and "it knows." Depending on how it's rigged, it will trigger on the ground if you move the flaps. It could also be triggered by an intermittent short in the flap sensing circuit. You can disable this by removing the wire/eliminating the flap sensing switch from the circuit, but I'd advise against it...for several reasons. The other source of this aural warning is triggering of the AOA test circuit..intentionally or by a short in the wiring, but it should give you lots more warnings than just flaps if it's going into a test mode.
Call me on this if desired. I have an AOA Pro, Chelton and PS-8000A audio panel. They all work well together.
