Kevin In trying to think of what might be unique in Lancair fuel systems, let's consider the Andair Check Valve in the Vent. 550's and 540's have high fuel flow on takeoff and climb out. In our case, the times we have had a fueling interruption at less than 10,000', we had full tanks and were climbing to higher altitude. If the check valve is sticking when only the engine pump is operating there is little air in the tanks to absorb a vacuum. The boost pump could be "fixing" a malfunctioning check valve. This could be tested by switching tanks since it should take a little time for the same problem to occur in the other tank. This is just thinking out loud, but it might lead to something.
