Dear LML followers,
This coming weekend, the Virginia Aviation Council will sponsor the VA Festival of Flight at the Suffolk County Airport (KSFQ). My personal weather woman has decreed that it WILL be a beautiful 2-day weekend (in part to make up for the Sunday thunderstorm last year), so if you’re looking for a good place to go show off your beauty, ogle some others and learn a bit more about aviation, come see us on Saturday and Sunday.
Event details are on the web site at: www.VirginiaFlyIn.org. I’ve asked the aircraft parkers to gather all the Lancairs together in one area, and invite you to join this group. We tried this last year with marginal success. L We’ll be parking on hard surface this year, and if you’ll give me an email or a call, I’ll advise you where they now intend to spot us. Otherwise, talk to the ramp coordinator on the published “Ground Advisory” frequency of 121.75 for the “true location” when you arrive. Suggest you also review the web site under “arrival” procedures for the recommended “airplane” arrival proceedure.
The site advises the field will not be closed for an air show, but there will be a NOTAM closing Runways 7-25…and in fact, that’s likely where we’ll be parking—so please don’t land on me! All arrivals and departures will use Runways 4-22, and we’ll have skydivers in the air over the field, so no over-flights, please. As always with an event of this type, HEADS UP when flying in the local area.
If you live on the east coast and own a flying Lancair, you have no excuse for not exercising your constitutional right to fly to Virginia during this coming weekend! I appreciate that Kitchen Passes are controlled by a Higher Authority, so make your request early! J
