Yes it can and I would not alodine your aluminum parts that you are going to structural bond to something. Alodine was developed as a prep for paint primer. It does not penetrate the aluminum and can potentially peel off, therefore your bond joint in no stronger than the alodine bond. With that said, alodine does offer improved corrosion protection for the part and the bond joint. So if you are structural bonding your Garmin 496 bracket to something, it is a good idea. A “clean” and scuffed aluminum part offers the best bond strength.

Does treating an aluminum part with alodine affect the ability of Hysol to stick to it?
As long as we’re on the topic, these (forward hinged) canopy hinge brackets look like they already have some sort of coating on them. Did anybody else add some sort of protection to these things, or am I just overthinking this?
